— Naka-Okachimachi, a Top 100 vegetarian Indian restaurant
The signature is vegetarian and vegan Indian food made without meat or fish. It centers on the daily curry and meals (South Indian set meal), with vegetables and pulses in the lead. Vegan options without dairy and eggs are also offered. Representative items include the lunch curry set, biryani (Indian mixed-rice dish), and papad (Indian crisp flatbread). It was selected for the Tabelog Asian/Ethnic TOKYO Top 100 (Tabelog 100) 2024 (also 2022 and 2023), and earlier for the Tabelog Curry TOKYO Top 100 (Tabelog 100) 2020. There is seating on the 2nd floor, and private use for 20 to 50 people is available.
A 100% vegetarian Indian restaurant in Naka-Okachimachi — no meat, fish, or eggs.
In Okachimachi there's a famous vegetarian curry spot called "Veg Herb Saga," but this place has a richer menu and is more casual to enjoy! (A chef who used to work there became independent.)
At Indian curry shops, the "Meals" — a one-plate curry set — is common, but here the side dishes are so abundant you have trouble choosing!
No meat/fish/eggs, but as it's vegetarian-friendly (not vegan), they do use dairy — be aware! Items with red marks on the menu use dairy, making it easy to tell, but for daily specials and other items where it's unclear, asking the staff is recommended!
This time I ordered "Puri" and "Pani Puri," both popular in India!
As an Indian food beginner, both were firsts for me. Puri is Indian fried bread; pani puri is a street food where you pour spicy cold soup (pani) into mini puris and eat in one bite!
The pani is refreshing with tamarind and lemon and has bold spice heat — perfect for hot summer days.
If you want to try lots of things, going as a group to share is great.
Okachimachi is Japan's leading jewelry district, so jewel buyers come from India, and authentic Indian restaurants are plentiful here!
Further, India has "Jainism," which forbids harming living things, so many shops accommodate vegetarian/vegan diets.
When you want a healthy junk curry, please visit Okachimachi!
